Mangetic Levition VAWT

Check out my Magnetic Levitation Bearing equipped VAWT

This uses permanent magnets to lift the VAWT, reducing friction and required maintenance.

Jeff, i hope you remember me - I posted you my link to BucketVAWT on instructables awhile back that was inspired by your drum design.

I have to say this is amazing. I'd love to know more about how you got the maglev to work. It seems to spin so freely. This would make a great commercial unit for domestic use. Let me know if you ever want to sell them in Australia!

If you want the best open platform 3D software around I can;t recommend Blender enough. http://www.blender.org/
It's like the Linux of 3D. And I used to use Caligari (ahem) on my Commodore Amiga so I know how you feel.

Anyway - well done and for heck's sake keep going!

I have been trying to figure out how you did that magnetic levitation. Maybe I'm thinking way to complicated, could you make a quick sketch of how that works? I'm in the process of building my VAWT, sort of like your VAWT.

I love reading your blog (which I found from your youtube wind turbine videos) and the videos and pictures of all of your projects. You seem like a very interesting guy. Keep the updates coming.

Thanks

Its just 2 magnets, 2" diameter, one glued to the inside of the cap, and one on the top of the mast attached with a plastic disk which goes inside the inner diameter of the mast.

Thanks for the great Savonius Links!!!
I've been tinkering with a Savonius design and find the links wonderful. Keep up the good work.
